Rt Hon Patricia Hewitt joins Speed Up Britain as its new Chair
Former Secretary of State for Trade and Industry Patricia Hewitt has been appointed as the new Chair of Speed Up Britain, following the appointment of Lord Vaizey of Didcot to the House of Lords.
Rt Hon Patricia Hewitt has had a long and varied career in government, serving as Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, Secretary of State for Health, Economic Secretary and e-Commerce Minister during her time as Labour MP for Leicester West between 1997 and 2010.
After leaving government, Patricia joined the Board of BT plc, where she was Senior Independent Director and Chair of the remuneration and pension committees until March 2014. During this period she was also Chair of the UK India Business Council – a role she held between 2009 and 2017.
She is currently a Director of GetLink (formerly EuroTunnel Group) and Chair of the Norfolk and Waveney Health and Care Partnership. She also acts as an adviser to the Government’s Board of Trade.
